Preserving Summer

Another new endeavor this past weekend: canning!  While Kevin isn’t sure just what we’re going to do with 6 half-pints of plum cardamom jam (I am worried I’m going to run out well before next summer’s plums…like next month), I am loving the fun of putting up some of the best fruits of the season.  I got to the game a little late this year and don’t have the time to delve into all the things you can do with tomatoes (next year!), but I can’t wait for fall and all the opportunities that apples, pears, figs, pumpkin, etc. provide for this new-but-age-old way to prepare for winter.

Yes, it’s true we have a supermarket in the courtyard of our building and we can get fresh produce with a push of the elevator button.  But that’s not the point. Del Monte has nothing on these peaches:
