About Me

I don’t think I’m very good at these “about” things, but I always like to know about other people, so I should at least try to return the favor. Maybe a 100 things about me meme-ish deal could work?

1. I have two masters degrees, an M. Litt. and an M.A.
   
2. I don’t use either degree for my job.
3. I dropped out of my Ph.D. program
4. I’ll be paying off the student loans forever.
5. I minored in music.
6. I have played, at one time or another, the flute, oboe, piccolo, violin, french horn, and piano. I don’t really play anything these days.
7. In choirs, I often sang alto because I could read music. I’m really a very high soprano, when my voice is in shape (which it’s not right now).
8. I like Karaoke.
9. My living room is painted orange. This was not my idea.
10. I live with my boyfriend. The orange was his idea.
11. Oddly, the orange looks really good.
12. I love TiVo.
13. I want an HDTV, but HD TiVo is astronomically expensive, so I’ll stick with my tiny regular tv for now.
14. I love living in the city.
15. I never want to move to the suburbs.
16. I really really want a cat.
17. My boyfriend won’t let me.
18. I love my boyfriend, despite the fact that he hates animals.
19. My boyfriend is over a foot taller than me.
20. I’m 4′11″.
21. My driver’s license says I’m 5′.
22. For a few years, my drivers license said I was male.
23. I am female.
24. I want to learn how to knit faster.
25. I want to learn how to knit continental.
26. I think the last two statements may be linked.
27. I recently bought a sewing machine.
28. I have no idea how to use it.
29. I love Neil Diamond.
30. I became Episcopalian when I was 22 years old.
31. I wish I went to church more often.
32. I love English church music.
33. I live in the complex where one of the most famous scandals in American history took place.
34. I have a pretty cool cityscape view from my apartment.
35. I’m named after two of my great-grandmothers.
36. I wish I were better at keeping in touch with friends.
37. The only bone I’ve officially broken is my skull. (maybe a toe…but that’s just because it hurt so bad!)
38. Yes, now you know what’s wrong with me.
39. I lived for a year in Scotland.
40. I’d move there in a minute if I could.
41. I’ve lived in 3 states (NJ, KY and NY) and a District (of Columbia).
42. Despite learning several times, I still haven’t mastered a manual transmission on a car.
43. I don’t own a car.
44. I don’t like celery, grapefruit, olives or parsley.
45. I’m asthmatic and allergic to pretty much any pollen or dander.
    
46. I’m not allergic to foods.
47. I was a waitress once, for a single shift. I quit and never went back.
48. I’d love to own my own business someday.
49. I love a clean house. I hate cleaning my house.
50. I have a tattoo.
51. I’m a terrible swimmer.
52. I took lessons when I was 26 at the Y.
53. I’m still a bad swimmer.
54. I’m afraid I lack focus.
55. I hate going to the gym.
56. I’d like to do yoga.
57. I love shoes.
58. I have no idea how many pairs I have, although I’m not Imelda Marcos.
59. I don’t know how I’d do if I lived somewhere without 4 seasons.
60. I have an older brother.
61. I wanted to have more siblings, until I realized I wouldn’t be the baby.

63. If I had been a boy, my name would have be Jonathan.
64. I never got detention in school.

67. I think I’m a feminist…depending on how it’s defined.
68. I rarely wear makeup.

71. Favorite breakfast food: Oatmeal with whiskey. Good on the coldest of cold days.
72. I like to bake more than I like to cook.
73. I’ve worn glasses or contacts since 2nd grade.
74. I think there’s too much war and not enough looking for peace.
75. I cry easily at TV shows and movies.
76. I like to think I’m organized.
77. I’m probably not as organized as I think I am.
78. I work well under pressure…lots of pressure!
79. If I could do anything all day it would be knit and listen to audiobooks.
80. And take a walk to get outside.
81. I love a good thunderstorm (my boyfriend doesn’t).
82. I have bungee jumped.
83. It was the worst thing EVER.
84. I try to be nice to everyone, even to people I don’t like.
85. It doesn’t always work.
86. I feel absolutely awful if/when I offend anyone…it usually makes me cry.
87. I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up.
88. I was in marching band in high school.
89. I secretly wanted to be a cheerleader.
90. It doesn’t matter now, does it?
91. I like pedicures better than manicures.
92. I love to read.
93. I hate math.
94. Political debates stress me out.
95. I love dairy products.
96. I love a good hamburger.
    
97. My favorite poet is Rilke.
98. I think I worry too much.
99. I know how to snowboard, but not how to ski
100. I love giving and getting gifts.
